QiGONG

Qigong is a comprehensive term used to describe a variety of Chinese exercise systems. It can include:

  • Taoist yoga

  • Zhan Zhuang standing meditation

  • Taiji (Tai Chi) for health

  • Breathing exercises

  • Traditional health Qigong ‘sets’ such as the Ba Duan Jin (8 Brocades)

In all of these systems, there is a synergy of the traditional Chinese medicine approach (energy meridians) and body mechanics. Similar to Indian yoga and Pilates, the goal is to build strength and flexibility.

As Qigong can work on both the energetic and physical levels, all the exercises are relatively easy to adapt to different abilities. Those with mobility issues, the elderly and those recovering from injury are just as welcome as seasoned martial artists and athletes.

You can read my article on Zhan Zhuang Qigong here.

If you think that Qigong exercise might be for you, then consider joining a taster class. Currently, I run a Qigong class on Friday afternoon in Haedcorn, Kent.
